What you Need to Know About West Orange

About W.O.

Our comfortable, suburban town in the heart of Essex County offers many family attractions including the Turtle Back Zoo,  South Mountain Reservation Complex and Sunday sports leagues.  So bring your ice skates and your soccer cleats!

Nursery & Camp

Several generations of West Orange kids have graduated from The Lauren Elise Bier Nursery School at Congregation AABJ&D.  Programs begin with infants and continue through Pre-K, including early drop-off and late pick-up.  Plus Camp Shemesh in the summer!

Yeshiva Day Schools

Our local Orthodox Yeshiva options with busing from West Orange include: The Joseph Kushner Hebrew Academy/Rae Kushner Yeshiva High School (JKHA/RKYHS) and the Jewish Education Center (JEC). There are also several other options in neighboring communities.

West Orange offers a range of housing options from 3BRs in the $300Ks and up.  At all levels, a hallmark of West Orange real estate is that you will get more for your money.

Transportation

West Orange has several options to commute to Manhattan, including a walkable express bus to Port Authority.  NJ Transit is a short drive away - and the town offers Jitney service from the primary shul areas to the local train stations!  The PATH is also a short drive, and if none of that works, we'll give you a ride on our shoulders!  Click below for more information.

Place Setting
Kosher Food

We are now home to the West Orange Fooderie - a fully kosher supermarket with bakery, sushi and take-out.  The Fooderie joins other take out offerings in town, including chinese.  Holy Schnitzel recently joined our growing list of kosher restaurants, including a nearby pizza cafe and kosher bagel store.  And our ShopRite features a full kosher aisle.  Bottom line...your family has many options!

Eruv

The Dr. and Mrs. Walter Feder Memorial West Orange Eruv was established in 1983, and is checked weekly to ensure our homes and institutions are within the Eruv.  It was generously expanded recently to include St. Barnabas Hospital in Livingston.

Mikvah

A strong and vibrant institution, the West Orange Mikvah is a cornerstone of our community. Plus, enjoy one-year of free membership for qualifying families as part of the New Family Incentive Program.
